myCADtools Integration - Batch document editing and customized tasks

As a designer, you spend an average of around 1,000 hours a year working with SOLIDWORKS. Your bond with the software grows stronger with each annual release, and the new features that come with it make your work easier.

But you're missing something. As a satisfied SOLIDWORKS user myself, I regularly encounter a number of specific limitations:

  • Setting up templates and modifying library components

After optimizing the model parameters in SOLIDWORKS, I have to manually modify all the elements in my library.

  • Editing documents to create images

To create images, all my parts must be in isometric view, which I have to do manually for each document.

  • Change of material

Modifying a material is done manually

  • Set up a sheet format for all drawings

I've created a new sheet format and would like to use it for all A4 drawings.

  • Programming and executing macros

Manual execution for each document.

For each user, the list can be different. Personalizing your working environment is therefore a wise choice. Let's take a look at the possibilities offered by the myCADtools integration tool to make the most of your 1,000 hours of work with your SOLIDWORKS friend.

Integration tool

Use the Integration tool in myCADtools if you want to automate many different tasks based on conditions (preconditions) and operations.

In the example below, the integration is set up so that the sheet format (a document template), in all documents equivalent to A4 sheet format, is replaced by a sheet format of your choice.

In this example, the myCADtools Integration application searches for A4V documents (1) and, if it finds them, replaces them with another sheet format (2).

In the following screenshot, you can specify in which Windows folders the Integration tool should search for files (1) and, if applicable, which filters (dependencies) it should use to select files (2) :

In just a few actions, you have selected the documents you wish to modify. You can also choose to select documents open in SOLIDWORKS.

Once you've defined the operation, you can save it for reuse as an automatic task.

Do you find it interesting to personalize your SOLIDWORKS environment in this way? I've got news for you. In addition to the example above, you can configure many other tasks with Integration. Integration has a library of over 50 conditions and 100 operations.
