It can be tedious to set permissions on PDM folders.

In addition, these rights may sometimes be identical to those in other files to which the rights have already been assigned.


 


The DataRecovery tool allows you to automatically copy folder permissions to other folders.

To perform this action, launch DataRecovery and log in using an admin account:


 


We'll start by extracting the folders, so use the extraction operation:


 


We're just going to create an Excel template with two columns:


 


So now we'll select the root directory of the archive for extraction, our model, and an output file:


 


We will select the "Folder" option and specify the names of the headers we created earlier:


 


After running the command, the generated file will therefore contain all the folders in our PDM repository and their associated levels:


 



So we're going to revise this file; the idea is to keep only the folders for which permissions need to be set (since subfolders inherit permissions). In this example, that means the Level 1 folders.

Using an Excel filter, we will select only the folders whose level is not 1:


 


After deletion, only the top-level folders will be retained:


 


We will now delete the "Level" column, since we no longer need the level information for the remaining folders, and we will create a "right" column that will contain the path of the folder from which we want to copy the existing permissions:


 


All that's left to do is restart DataRecovery and the intelligence operation:


 


We'll simply specify the root folder of the vault to be processed, as well as the modified Excel file:


 


Finally, we'll define the column header to use for duplicating permissions:


 


After application, the new permissions will be applied to all specified folders.
