Creation of a tool
Here the tool is a SOLIDWORKS part document.
The steps for creating a new tool are :
- Create a sketch containing the complete contours of the tool (from scratch or by importing a dxf directly into the part). ATTENTION, this contour must be centered on the origin.
- Create a sketch (optional) called "Size" containing average, minimum and maximum diameters and axes. This is the sketch you can hide or show in the tool's graphics window.
- The last step consists of creating the SOLIDWORKS properties required by the tool:
- A property Type :
- Value at 1 if external wheel.
- Value at 2 if rack.
- Value of 3 if internal wheel.
This property is required so that the interface will offer the correct list for the Definition of the gear to be created.
- A property Z for the number of teeth.
- A property m for the module.
- A property D for the average diameter.
