The simple search criteria allow you to search for all files for which one or more criteria have been added. This is always the level at which documents will be listed in the Search Results window.

First of all it is imperative to specify a location from which to search for files, to do this click on .


 

Click the Add button and fill in the fields.


Select the variable from the drop-down list provided. This list comes from the vault.


   


Next, select the operator that allows you to narrow the search to the value of the variable.

If the variable is of the numeric Alpha type,then the list of options for the operator will be Text ...

If the variable is of type Numeric,then the list of options for the operator will be Number ...


Next, select (or enter) the variable value you want to search for.

If this variable is present in the files, the list displayed shows all the values of the existing variable.

If this list is empty, it means that this variable does not appear in any of the files, or that the variable exists but has not been filled in.


It is possible to tick or not tick the option :

  • If this option is not checked, the search for this criterion will be performed only on the latest version of the file in the vault.
  • If this option is checked, the search for this criterion will be performed on all versions of the file in the vault.

The variables to search for in all versions are distinguished from other criteria by a checkmark in the "Versions" column.


 


All criteria are defined in the search query, and the options in the drop-down list include only those values that meet the previously added criterion(s).

For example, [name] has the following documents:

 

The user sets an initial search criterion for the "Description" variable = 'STAINLESS STEEL SCREW '.

To refine the search, the user can add a second criterion based on the "Diameter" variable. The drop-down list then displays the options 8 and 10.

In the image below, we are searching the repository starting from the general location D:\Vue\myPDMtools_2015\Samples 2015:

- First, all files with an "Author" variable whose value is equal to -> VISIATIV.

- Second, among these files, all those with a "Project" variable whose value is equal to -> 230.

- Third, among these files, all those with a "Description" variable whose value is "Contains the word Vis 2x5."


 


Click on the search result is displayed in the lower area of the window in the form of a table with the columns defined in the options from PDMSearchHere 2 files were found that meet the search criteria:


 


A context menu appears for each document found, allowing you to:

  • View the document in PDMViewer
  • Open the document in its native application
  • Open the document in another application
  • Copy the document
  • Open the document using Windows Explorer
  • Archive or Extract the Document
  • Add to a DocPublication list
  • Change State


 


The icon in the results window toolbar allows you to change the display of the found documents and to group them or not by document type.


See groups unchecked (default), files of different types may appear mixed.

See groups checked, files of different types are grouped by type and separated by a line.
